vom 17. oktober bis 04. november wird nürnberg erneut zum pulsierenden zentrum des zeitgenössischen jazz: das nuejazz festival verwandelt die stadt in einen lebendigen treffpunkt für stilistisch offenen, innovativen und hochkarätigen jazz. mit seinem genreübergreifenden programm, seinem künstlerischen anspruch und seiner besonderen atmosphäre zählt nuejazz zu den herausragendsten festivals in deutschland – ausgezeichnet mit dem deutschen jazzpreis 2024 als „festival des jahres“, einer der wichtigsten ehrungen der deutschen jazzszene…
seit seiner gründung 2017 durch die pianistin und klangtüftlerin joanna duda versteht sich das trio als labor für das unvorhersehbare. gemeinsam mit maksymilian mucha (kontrabass) und michał bryndal (schlagzeug) lotet sie das jazztrio nicht als feste form, sondern als bewegliches system aus – durchlässig für elektronik, improvisation und kompositorisches raffinement. effekte, sampler und sequenzer erweitern den akustischen raum und machen klang zum zentralen ausdrucksmittel. das joanna duda trio ist längst eine feste größe auf internationalen bühnen – zu hören bei festivals wie dem berliner jazzfest, der cologne jazzweek, jazztopad oder den leipziger jazztagen, und in clubs wie porgy & bess (wien), ronnie scott’s (london) oder dizzy’s club (new york)…
mit «lonely island» veröffentlicht die schweizerisch-polnisch-japanische musikerin yumi ito ihr erstes soloalbum – und zugleich ihr bislang persönlichstes werk. reduziert auf stimme und klavier, zwei Instrumente, die sie seit kindheitstagen begleiten, entstand ein intimes klangporträt. Im zentrum beider instrumente steht die improvisation. als klassisch ausgebildete pianistin, die mit der suzuki-methode aufwuchs, schöpft yumi ito dabei aus einem leben des hörenden lernens.
zehn stücke, die ito über jahre hinweg begleitet haben, und die sie selbst auf eine einsame insel mitnehmen würden, erscheinen auf «lonely island» in neuem licht – songs wie «what seems to be», «old redwood tree» oder «stardust crystals», verdichtet und auf das wesentliche reduziert. was bleibt, ist pure essenz: musik voller wärme, tiefe und ehrlichkeit…
